Hell, I would say get some google eyed fish or mullet, something you could buy and just rig those bad boys up. Get a couple feet of cable leader and either just use a circle hook in the back or double up. I have used something similar to a chicken rig but used a circle hook up from then about 3 in. back attached a treble hook through the back of the bait. It works great but removing these hooks are a little trickier especially when its in the mouth of a black tip, watch those fingers!
you could either make your own double hook set up with regular wire leader or just buy a pre made one then you could just tie your main line to a big barrel snap swivel and attach it that way. If you make one your self i usually use an albright knot from my main line to the wire then put on a haywire just because. This website says it isn't necessary, I guess it is a personal choice? its a pretty good step by step picture guide even though it says its for fly-fishing, same idea. http://www.sefly.com/albright_knot.htm

Good luck with the black tips! I hope to see pictures!

Its funny my friend got a live goggle eye from a fishing boat going by earlier. My friend only got one bite and it just died and no other bites for a good hour. So we might try that again im not sure.

Ha, funny. Too bad ya'll didn't catch anything. A friend of mine goes surf fishing for sharks with fillets of mackerel. He catches a lot of bonnet heads that way. I don't know how big of a shark you were talking about but is that about the same size? Did ya'll catch anything else out there or is shark public enemy #1 right now?
