Inshore Fishing:

You can sense the change in the weather coming soon. It might be hot out there, but fall is rapidly approaching the Treasure Coast. The fall mullet run has officially began along the beach and you can see the bait schools flooding into the river each day. Snook season will open soon. It's going to be a fantastic fall!

I had the pleasure of having Darren, Spencer and Ashton on the boat over the weekend. Four year old, Ashton, was not going to let dad and brother out fish him that day. Using a short 4' 6" ugly stick, he caught a big sheephead, trout, a few catfish and nearly landed a nice redfish from under the docks. We had a fun day out on the river!

As the mullet continue to fill the river, you will find snook, trout, redfish and a host of other fish out there chasing the bait. Jacks are notorious for crashing bait schools in numbers. Early mornings with a top water lure can get exciting. Bear Point, Harbor Branch and down by the power plant are all good areas to start a day fishing. CAL shad or jerk baits are great trout lures on the flats. Watch for glass minnows in the shallows to find the trout nearby. Redfish can be found hanging around docks both north and south of Fort Pierce. Live bait or DOA shrimp works great on the docks.

Snook season is fast approaching! Check out your license and snook permit now. I see lots of anglers getting line spooled, stocking up on lures and you can sense some excitement around the area. I think this will be a busy snook season this year. You might find lots of anglers from the other coast heading this direction to fish for a slot snook. DOA Bait Busters and TerrorEyz are very popular around spillways and bridges. Feather jigs are also one of the favorites around the area. Whichever is your choice, fish them slowly along the bottom and you should get some hookups.

Teen Anglers:

I will be volunteering with the Teen Anglers this coming Sunday. Anyone who might be looking for a way to give back to the community should check into helping the Teen Anglers. Go to www.teenanglers.org for more information. They have a lot of new kids fishing this year and are in need of volunteers to take the kids out fishing in their tournaments each month. It's a wonderful cause and taking the kids out is reward enough. Recreation and education for the next generation is their goal. Contact Joe or Cammie at cward11605@aol.com to get involved with the Treasure Coast Teen Anglers. You will be glad you volunteered!

Remember, fishing is not just another hobby....it's an ADVENTURE!

Good Fishing and Be Safe!
