Finger Mullet Galore/Quick Meal for Redfish and Snook

Looks like we are in for an early fall migration maybe spawned on by the recent rash of Hurricanes that have moved up the east coast of the US. I recently saw an area of North Biscayne Bay that was loaded with schools of large silver and black mullet and a few large schools of finger mullet that were attracting a lot of attention from some large snook, jack crevalles and a few tarpon.

Yesterday during a full day in North Biscayne Bay that by my standards was very slow, maybe due to a full day of rain the day before and winds that were up into 20’s we did manage to catch over a dozen sea trout to three pounds and quite a few mangrove snappers on ¼ ounce Hookup Lures tipped with Gulp shrimp, live threadfin herring fished on 2/0 short shank and long shank Mustad Hooks and on Rapala Twitchin Raps. In one spot that held a nice school of threadfin herring a large hammerhead shark swam right up to the stern. If we had not been trying to catch bait at that time we might have had a shot at the fish. A few days earlier I had a party of four on board and in two hours we caught and released over two dozen sea trout to 2.5 pounds and a dozen mangrove snappers to 1.5 pounds. In this spot we had a 40 pound lemon shark chase a fish we were reeling in and then we hooked that shark on a live threadfin herring fished under a Cajun Thunder float.

Reports that I have been getting recently from tackle shops and fishing captains up coast talk about big schools of mullet working their way south and large jacks, Spanish mackerel and bluefish are following them. Large tarpon, snook, large ladyfish, pompano, sharks and kingfish will soon be following these baitfish schools as well. Next time you wake up early and walk outside and feel the first cool air of fall you will know it’s time to get out on the water and take advantage of some of the most exciting action of the whole year.

Fishing offshore of Miami will soon be seeing schools of mackerel, bluefish and large jack crevalles feeding just off the beaches and offshore king mackerel, sailfish, dolphins and bonitos will be providing plenty of action.

Flamingo fishing continues to be bright spot with plenty of action from big redfish, tarpon, and large sharks a few snook for catch and release, large jacks, ladyfish, snappers and free floating tripletail. Reports of large Spanish mackerel have been reported and you know if the larger mackerel are around the bluefish, pompano and cobia won’t be far away.

Well that catches us up for now!

Don’t let a bad weather forecast stop you from having a fishing adventure of a lifetime!

I expect the fishing to be pretty consistent for the next three or four months with lots of SEA TROUT, JACK CREVALLES, LADYFISH, SPANISH MACKEREL, BLUEFISH, GROUPER, BARRACUDAS, SNOOK, TARPON and some POMPANO in NORTH BISCAYNE BAY and OFFSHORE of MIAMI KINGFISH, MACKEREL, SAILFISH and DOLPHINS available on the calmer days and in SOUTH BISCAYNE BAY lots of action from a wide variety of fish like the SNAPPERS, GROUPERS, JACKS, BLUEFISH, MACKERELS, POMPANO, LADYFISH, PORGIES, GRUNTS, SNOOK and BLUERUNNERS keeping anglers busy catching and releasing fish most of the day. FLAMINGO in EVERGLADES NATIONAL PARK will have a huge amount of wildlife like the WHITE PELICANS, ROSEATTE SPOONBILLS, SKIMMER BIRDS,GULLS, OSPREYS, EAGLES, TERNS, EGRETS, HERONS, ALLIGATORS, CROCODILES, BOTTLE NOSED DOLPHINS, MANATTEES, SHARKS and TURTLES and of course the wide variety of fish that migrate into FLORIDA BAY and the GULF waters during the cooler months of the year. SNOOK, TARPON, REDFISH, SEA TROUT, SHEEPSHEAD, TRIIPLETAIL, BLACK DRUM, SNAPPER, GOLIATH AND GAG GROUPER, POMOPANO, COBIA, MACKEREL, BLUEFISH and I'm sure I am leaving a few other fish species out will be available to all anglers at one time or another throughout the rest of our FALL FISHING SEASON.
