    Crazy Day Crazy Catch

you can see from the photo we were fishing through a cold front, and the weather was freakin nuts. The wind was blowing hard from the North and the gulfstream was running hard against it.

We caught fish from the time we put our lines (about 2) in till the time we left (about 6). I can not remember exactly how many Ceros and kingfish we caught but it was alot.

Even the Triggerfish were fired up these two came up and ate a live ballyhoo trolled.
Nothing like doubling up on triggers

Then we got this guy, I am not even sure what it is?; but it slammed a live ballyhoo and I swore it was a baby sailfish when it did some jumps.

Anyway a good day out of Fort Lauderdale.

Very cool fish! I'll check the fish encyclopedia and see if I can find it.

A houndfish....very hard to hook and very cool to land...u don't see 'em that big very often...nice photo!! Bet u thought u had a 2lb sail on for a moment there....they tend to "greyhound" a lot.
In a word...Awesome...not an eating fish or otherwise very noteworthy but cool none the less.
Just goes to show u the bounty of Ft. laud. fishes....shall i expound?

Thats a FLAT NEEDLEFISH. I had caiught a few in the keys over the years and never knew their real name. Then this year we got a big one and I asked... Some research and thats what we came up with...

Rare enough to deserve a flag... I think we should come up with one...

I hooked one of those trolling the first time out on my current boat - It looked like a billfish - I was going nuts.

Turned out to be just a houndfish - big time bummed.
