Cobia Tampa Bay
Saturday started with the usual ritual gathering bait. Some chum and several toss of the 3/8” 10’ cast net and we were good to go. With a slack tide for the next hour or so we ran to St. Pete Beach looking for Mackerel and Shark action.
We quickly deployed a chum bag and dispatched fly lined white baits. It took only a few minutes to get the action started with a nice shark pushing 6’! Next up a spinner shark joined the party skyrocketing several times before breaking the braid mainline with its tail. We got excited as a Permit showed up off the stern but wasn’t interested in our offerings. Next up a very big spinner shark that had to be over 6’ took to the air after a long long run. This monster jumped 4 spectacular times one of which was caught on video!
Next up we ran to Bishops Harbor for some snook action. On the way over Captain Steven sighted 2 Cobia from up in the Pathfinders T Tower. I had Dave crab a rod while I motored into casting range. Dave made a great cast and within seconds the drag began to scream. To my horror Dave crabbed a redfish / trout rod not a Tarpon Rod. Dave did a masterful job battling 37’’s of angry Cobia. We had it to the boat numerous times only to have it scream away time after time.
