November 21, 2010 Fishing Report - Capt. Bruce Burkhart

Guess I am going to have to repeat myself again with this past weeks fishing report! The fishing in Sarasota Bay is still hot. The flounder, pompano, mackerel, bluefish, trout and ladyfish are still very active and have kept the clients busy reeling them in. Most jigs will work but I have been using DOA Glow Shrimp and gold CAL jigs to keep the fishing going. New Pass and Middlegrounds are the areas to find the fish.

Hope everybody has a great Thanksgiving Day.

November 21, 2010 Fishing Report - Capt. Jeffri Durrance

On a morning trip to catch bait for an offshore trip on Friday (weather allowing) we managed to catch a bay slam of trout, snook and redfish on the east side of Siesta Key. Fishing the east side of Siesta with a silver spoon we managed several trout and snook. The redfish was caught working the oyster bar south of the Siesta Key bridge. Also caught were ladyfish and sheephead.

This is the last weekend for keeping American red snapper in 2010. On Friday David Holifield, Jim Long and I ventured offshore to around 115 feet of water to see if we could find a few keepers. The trip was a success with red snapper to 20 pounds, and black and red grouper to 20 pounds caught. The fish ate cut squid, sardines and pinfish. It was a great day on the water!

Sunday Jeff Bell, Rusty Driver and Earl Smith and I went offshore and caught red snapper to 10 pounds, red grouper to 24 pounds and a 12 pound gag. Jeff had the hot hand catching 3 red snapper and several grouper including the 24 pound red grouper. We also caught a gray snapper and a trigger fish. The fish were hitting cut squid, sardines, and strip baits in 115 feet of water.

Kingfish are still scattered offshore and grouper are cooperating in relatively shallow water while trolling deep diving plugs.

November 21, 2010 Fishing Report - Capt. Rick Grassett

Anglers fishing with me on my flats skiff the Snook Fin-Addict, out of CB’s Saltwater Outfitters on Siesta Key, had good action in Sarasota Bay with catch and release trout and blues on CAL jigs with a variety of plastic tails and DOA Deadly Combos and little tunny in the coastal gulf on flies during the past week. In addition, we also caught scattered Spanish mackerel and pompano in Sarasota Bay.

A former high school classmate of mine, Tom Clark from VA, and a couple of guests fished Sarasota Bay with me on Monday. They caught and released numerous trout and blues on CAL jigs with shad tails on deep grass flats at Stephens and Bishop Point. Bill Moore, from Libertyville, IL, fished with me on Tuesday and Sarasota winter resident, Tom Lamb, and John Freeman, Jr., from Venice, FL fished with me on Wednesday and had similar action in the same areas with the same lures.

The action picked up a little on Thursday when Sarasota winter residents, Dennis Kolarik and Tom Mulder, fished Sarasota Bay with me. In addition to numerous trout, they caught and released blues, Spanish mackerel and connected with a nice pompano along the east side of Sarasota Bay on CAL jigs with shad tails, DOA Deadly Combos and flies.

One of the best trips of the week was on Friday with Stephanie Kieselewski, from Sarasota, FL, who collected her trip, which I donated to Mangrove Coast Fly Fishers. We had tried to take the trip a couple of other times and had to cancel due to poor conditions, but the third time was a charm. We fly fished the coastal gulf off Siesta and Casey Keys where Stephanie caught and released 5 little tunny on my Grassett Snook Minnow fly. Great action!

I participated in CB’s Saltwater Outfitters annual “Fishing Extravaganza” on Saturday, a fun filled day with fishing seminars, fly casting demos and much more provided by the staff and guides at CB’s as well as several other guides from our area. If you are interested in learning to fly fish or if you already have some experience but want to improve your skills or correct problems, I will be the instructor for a CB’s Saltwater Outfitter’s Orvis-Endorsed fly fishing school on Saturday, Dec. 4, 2010. The school will cover fly casting basics, line control, shooting line and the roll cast. I will also cover leader construction, fly selection and saltwater fly fishing techniques. Cost for the school, which will run from 9 AM to 4 PM, is $150 per person and includes the use of premium Orvis fly tackle, a text book and lunch. Contact me or CB’s Saltwater Outfitters at (941) 349-4400 or cbsoutfitters@verizon.net to make reservations.

Next week’s negative low tides in the morning should concentrate reds, trout and snook in potholes on shallow flats. Some of the best action should continue to be on deep grass flats of Sarasota Bay with trout and blues and in the coastal gulf with Spanish mackerel and little tunny.

November 21, 2010 Fishing Report - Capt. Ed Hurst

ATom Esposito and Ross Jenkins caught a fish on virtually every cast this morning. Tom was fly fishing and Ross was spin fishing. They caught big ladyfish, big mackerel and bluefish until they were tired. Tom used mostly white and chartreuse Clousers and Ross used Mister Twister Slimy Slugs. We started using 60 pound test leader after being bitten off several times and still got bitten off with the 60. We could have used wire but it slows the action down and we weren't keeping fish anyway. Tom and Ross enjoyed an perfect morning both weather and fish wise. Good for them.

November 22, 2010 Fishing Report - Capt. Jim Klopfer

I took Cb's owner Aledia Tush and manager Doug Forde out on Tuesday. The wind made things a little challenging, but we caught speckled trout, large ladfyfish and bluefish on Cotee jigs at Country Club shores, the radio tower, and Selby flats. We then went near the mouth of Phillippi cr and aledia caught a nice snook and Doug caught a big blue on Rapala plugs.

Bob Stack and his friend Fantasia and Pete fished with me on Friday. We experienced non-stop action on bluefish, ladyfish and Spanish mackerel in New Pass on Cotee jigs.

November 21, 2010 Fishing Report - Capt. Jack Ryan

Ellen Whitman and David Whitman,on board the Sea Dog w/Capt.Jack out of CB's caught Gag grouper to 23",Hogfish,Porgy, and Spanish Mackerel off Big Pass in 38' of water. Choice of baits were cut sardines and live shrimp. Best method of fishing was to free line live bait in our chum slick to produce the grouper. The Macks were heavy behind the boat, chewing up everything in sight. This is a great to fish inshore or offshore....
