Captain's Weekly Fishing Report

September 20, 2010 Fishing Report - Capt. Bruce Burkhart

The air temp at night has made the mornings cooler which has been a nice change from the heat. It has also made for cooler water temps and great fishing in the bay.

Debbie and Lincoln Miller from Sarasota fished with me and had a great day catching bluefish, trout and tons of little grouper. Fish were caught on both sides of the bay.

Bryan Davies and his dad Bob from Sarasota, along with friends Jay and Ryan from Tennessee, caught close to one hundred fish on Saturday in the bay. All fish were caught on CAL chartreuse jig heads and silver and glow jigs. We caught trout to eighteen inches and bluefish to four pounds. Bob topped off his birthday with a few flounder up to nineteen inches.

Betty, Chip and Billy Lecture from the Panhandle fished on Sunday. We fished the grass flats with CAL jigs and had fun catching ladyfish, trout, mackerel and little grouper. We tossed live shrimp under the docks in Roberts Bay with Chip wishing for his first snook. Instead, his wife Betty caught two nice snook. Billy and Chip caught Black Drum and redfish.

Look for the mackerel and little tunney to start showing up along the coastal reefs as the water continues to cool off.
