FL Captain James Howard's Fishing Reprt 7/4/09

The weather has been warm and we are into the summer pattern as far as fishing and weather goes…

The Trout have shown back up in the river in good numbers with most of the fish in the 2 to 3lb range. Red fishing is good if you figure out the feeding patterns of a few different schools. They have been eating minnows and crab baits for me.

The shrimp are moving in the River and the creeks but are mostly small so you can bet the fish are not going hungry. When all those tiny shrimp are in the creeks like that sometimes it makes the Reds a harder bite because they are gorging on those small shrimp 24/7…

The flounder have slowed a little in the creeks. I usually catch a few when I’m red fishing but haven’t caught one in the last week or so.

On a trip last week the Reds just wouldn’t bite for us but we got on a school of decent Drum. They were from 14 to 20 inches and as many as you wanted. Drum that size are a blast to catch but what fish isn’t when it’s every cast!!!
