Inshore Fishing:

Beautiful fall weather has arrived on the Treasure Coast. Cooler mornings and light winds make for outstanding outdoor activities during October. As the weather begins to cool off, so does the water temperatures. We found the water has cooled off quite a bit lately and that can sure affect the bite on some days.

Todd and Lauren (recent newlyweds!) were back down to visit and do some fishing. We found a slower bite than last week, but managed to catch some fish around the river anyway. Keith and Cai were also back this week and Cai topped the day with a nice trout on the flats. There is still lots of bait around the river and most of our luck this week was fishing around the bait schools. Harbor Branch has lots of bait on the flats and has been productive for trout on CAL jerk baits and live shrimp. We caught redfish, but most were on the shorter side than normal. I did catch a 24" red on the flats with a top water lure around the mangroves.

There have been tarpon, snook and jacks around the jetties at night for those late anglers. TerrorEyz, top water and live bait will work on the jetties. Jacks can be found most of the day around the river during this month. We have caught some mangrove snapper around some of the docks along with sheephead. As the water begins to cool off, you can start moving to deeper water for the usual fish of the river. October has been a good month to fish so far.
