Fishing in the Boca Grande area of southwest Florida has been rated slightly better than average. This means that opportunities to catch redfish, snook, pompano, seatrout and more are good. Fly anglers using crab, shrimp and pinfish imitations are scoring on the most fish. Best colors are brown/olive, tan and light brown.
Redfish are holding in pot hole in the grass flats until the tide rises. The young flood tide encourages tailing reds. Snook have moved into the creeks and protected basins deep in the back country or at the mouths of the rivers. Seatrout are plentiful almost everywhere. Pompano and Spanish mackerel are attacking bait near the passes during the rising tides. Some can be found on the deeper flats outside of Bull and Turtle bays.
The waxing moon we have for the next week will increase the bite. Fishing should top off on Jan 10 for two days and then resume as we descend toward the new moon. Now is a good time to take advantage of the light fishing pressure and the great weather.
Fish Hard,
Capt. Pete
