35 Entries for Central Abaco

The 38th annual Bahamas Billfish Championship series kicks-off next week with an 18% increase in entries for the Central Abaco Championship at Treasure Cay Resort & Marina. Host/sponsors for the first leg of the five tournament series are Hatteras Yachts and Gulfstream International Airlines.

The all new Hatteras 63 GT will be making its tournament debut compliments of Hatteras and MarineMax. MarineMax will also be hosting the Morning Eye Opener each morning at the Tipsy Seagull Patio between the hours of 0600 and 0730 Thursday and Friday and 0530 to 0700

For those that have not participated in the BBC before or missed last year's tournaments, registration hours Wednesday are from 1300 to 1600 hours at the Tipsy Seagull Patio. During registration, all participating teams will receive BBC T-shirts and visors as well as other goodies from the Series' sponsors.

In compliance with the Bahamas Department of Fisheries regulations for permitted tournaments, all participating teams will receive a small decal to be placed on the boat's Bahamas Fishing Permit.

The BBC recognizes the valuable contributions of the captains and crewmembers and the 'Committee Boat' will again have daily crew drawings. A variety of items, including merchandise gift certificates, Gulfstream Airlines vouchers and Treasure Cay Resort 'weekend get-aways' are given away each fishing day. Don't forget to sign-up for the crew drawings at registration. An extensive list of Crew Drawing sponsors can be found in the spring issue of The Teaser.

Orchid Bay is Open

After being closed for the month of March, Orchid Bay has reopened with a fresh new look and the same friendly, out-island atmosphere. "Even the fish mounts in the restaurant look like they have been refurbished," said BBC president Al Behrendt after having lunch at Orchid Bay.
The entire island of Great Guana Cay is looking forward to hosting the 4th leg of this year's Championship. A social function (Bacardi drink contest) is planned at Nipper's on Thursday.
Orchid Bay's general manager, Jimmy Albury will have special dockage rates exclusively for BBC participants before, during and after the tournament. Watch the BBC e-Updates for more details.
Those requiring shore side accommodations should not delay in making reservations. Email Melonie Albury (orchidbay2004@yahoo.com ) with your requests for housing or slip reservations. There are a number of additional shore side accommodations listed on the BBC website (click here).

Looking Ahead
Cape Eleuthera

The BBC will be heading south after the Central Abaco Championship to Powell Point at Cape Eleuthera May 11th through 14th. Registrations continue to arrive at the BBC office daily and we anticipate a 30 boat tournament.

Start getting creative in the galley so your team is ready for a BBC hors d'oeuvres contest on Thursday evening at the Twin Palms Lanai.

The closest airport to the resort is Rock Sound Eleuthera. Check Twin Air Calypso for direct fights from Ft. Lauderdale. BBC sponsor, Gulfstream International Airlines offers service into Governor's Harbour but be ready for a long taxi ride. Bahamasair has two daily flights from Nassau and there are several local carriers like Pineapple Air that also serve Rock Sound from Nassau.

Entries for the Cape Eleuthera Championship will be accepted through May 3rd; however, slips are limited ... So if you haven't entered, there is no better time than right NOW!
