It's been awhile since I had the chance to post anything as I have been getting ready to open my little shop up in the keys. Went down last weekend to scope out some new area's to fish around big pine where I'll be set up.
Needless to say on a fri. night, it ended up being only a friend and I at standing on this little patch of promised bridge with fish boiling and popping all around.
This was my buddie TJ's first ride on a snook and tarpon sleighride and I think the action was a bit too much for him.
The first cast I made was to show him how to work a jig and shrimp combo against the current. Threw out the jig, let it hit the bottom and raised my tip once, Bam! Slot snook with one cast. Just a touch over 29". Bad thing is we are only allowed 1 fish a piece. I tried for about another hour to get TJ his first snook. No such luck. Stupid tarpon went on a blitz and kept me busy re rigging every 15 -20 minutes.
After another hour TJ ran out of gas and headed for the truck for a nap. Big mistake.
The tide started to slo a bit and for a good solid 2 hours it was nonstop tarpon and snook on back to back to back cast.
Final tally for my new bridge after 3 hours of hardcore jigging and top water, 8 snook between 27" and 41" and jumped 16 -17 tarpon with 8 of them straight up and down. Most of the poons were running a bit on the small side (20 - 40) but they jump more to make up for it. Big fish went about 70 lbs.
I can't wait to go back to work this weekend!
If anyone is ever down that way fri. thru monday look me up if you want to tangle with some bridge critters. My main targets are snook, tarpon and permit and lots of big mango snappers.
