Determined to catch fish from the shores of Aruba I tried fly fishing and balloon fishing up and down the leeward side of the island. My marginal fly fishing technique was not good enough to fish effectively with the trade winds blowing so I quickly transitioned to my baitcast rig. There weren't any signs of bonefish anyway. Used a breakaway balloon righ to get my bait to the bottom in deeper water. It worked great. I managed to catch some fish that looked like snook. They weren't huge but they were fun to catch. The one party boat in town (Olimpic) was bottom fishing for Grouper at a rate of $60/half day but I didn't go. There were a lot of charter boats sitting idle at the dock.
