Tournament Facts
* The 8th Annual Capt. John Breuggeman Memorial
Grouper Tournament took place on Sun. Jan. 15, 2012 at
Cape Haze Marina, Englewood.
* Mission: to have fun day fishing, to celebrate the life of
John Breuggeman and to provide scholarship monies to
local college bound students.
* The tournament is a one day event with lines in at 7
a.m and weigh in of fish between 2 and 4 p.m.
* 17 vessels were registered and 11 boats weighed in a
total of 441 pounds of red grouper !!
* A celebration barbeque of chicken and pork for all
anglers and guests
* $$$ awards to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place vessels for weight
of best 3 fish… $1500, $1000 and $500.
* Aluminum wall trophy, created by Rob Kozmits, went
to angler for biggest fish caught. Winner name is also
added to the perpetual trophy.
* Anglers’ names were drawn for a variety of sponsor
donated gifts ( 30 gifts)
* Raffle included a fishing kayak, an offshore fishing trip,
a back bay fishing trip, a glider ride, an Okuma rod and
reel, a fly rod outfit and an aluminum art piece.
* To Benefit: the John and Caroline Breuggeman
Scholarship Fund which provides scholarships to seniors
at Lemon Bay High School for college expenses. (John
created this fund in his wife’s name on her retirement from
teaching at Englewood Elementary. At his death, his
name was added….)
* A special thanks to Cape Haze Marina for their full
support of our tournament.
