Today we fished with Forum member Shoefish. We made are long run (all of about 1 mile) to the edge of the reef where we put out a full kite spread armed with livies. The fishing was a little slow, Shoefish made me proud getting this nice King on 12lb spin tackle.
We watched a guy next to us catch a very small sail and that was about it.
Dan I had a great time fishing with you, good luck next week in Mexiico!
Just got in from Florida tonight. I was there for "business" but was psyched to be able to get out with Jeff (Saltwater30) and Matt (Widerightmatt) a couple of times. If any of you are ever down in that area, look them up. They like to fish with light tackle, always find good bait, and work their butts off to put you on the fish.
For any of you who haven't fished with a kite, it's worth it to learn. It was my first go round with one and I have to say that it was pretty simple, and made the baits look so good I wanted to take a bite. We'll be gearing up with one for the next bluefin season for sure. I don't have any video of deploying the kite, but I do have some good video of a 7'-8' hammerhead that came in so hot for the mullet on the kite, that Jeff had to keep the baits out of the water until it left, and it only did that after some "convincing" by Jeff.
There is nothing like seeing the kings come out of the water and blast the kite bait, followed by the rod cranking right over.
Thanks again Jeff for working so hard to find the fish, hopefully I'll be down there again somtime this winter.
And now I need to go pack- I'm off to Puerto Vallarta for vacation. I'm packing two suitcases full of fishing gear, my camera, and my videocamera. Wish me luck, and hopefully I'll have plenty of vids and pics to post next week.
You were a pleasure to fish with! You are definitely INTO fishing! I like that you wanted to explore other fishing areas, and I hope that you learned some stuff about fishing down SOUTH! I know that you take what you learned down here and turn it into something usefull up there!
PS Everyone, be careful out there it was pretty rough out and I almost went over while I was trying to get some good shots of the Hammerhead!
Shoe, send me or jeff the clip you got of the hammer via email. We'll put yours and mine together for the next video!
