What's up fellas?
First of many posts to come and a new memeber. Got out Thursday 7am-11pm. Left the port, casted netted some ballyhoo and headed out. I slowed trolled 120-250 ft and raised a sail on a manmade teaser within an hour of getting started. I tried the old bait and switch, but couldn't get him to eat. Around 10, I nailed a peanut dolphin and that was the day. Beautiful day and I had the ocean to myself for the most part. Im still trying to nail my first sail, any tips on triguring a strike on a raised fish would be much appreciated. Take care, Go Bears,
Drew
Welcome aboard... I'm from just above you in Palm Beach area...
On a trolled bait pullit away from him. Get him pissed off then no pressure on the free spool. Max at 80lb leader... sharp7/0-8/0 hook.
Live you go the other way. Don't move the bait. Don't let it run away if you can help it... Idling ahead will help keep the bait behind you and in line where the sail can doink it. Live I max out at 50lb leader and 5/0 hook. Don't feed him til he eats. For that matter don'thold back or put pressure on once he does. Three full seconds is a good choice for drop back. Wind tight and short strokes. Its not saturday morn on espn...
Good to see you on here, I think you are on the right track to getting your first sail. Deep C gave you some sound advice. Also you might want to pick up your troll speed just a bit.
Thanks Deep C and Saltshaker for the tips. I appreciate it. How's it going Captain Jeff, this Rob's buddy. I will be getting out about three times a week now for the next couple months so I will keep an eye out there for you. Take care
