Gaff Wrap
With the dolphin and cobia around, there seems to have been a rash of Gaff releases lately, so I thought I would share the method I use. This was shown to me many years ago by the captain of the Pelican, Arch( and his mate Justin at the time, Now captain of the Swordfish). Just giving credit where due.
It is a simple series of half-hitches, using either rigger cord or in this case I used masonary string. You want something relatively thick so it makes a nice ridge. This works wet or dry, hot or cold. I wrapped the gaff in the picture over 5 years ago and short of a little sun bleach, you can see its still holding up well. I have bent a few, but never lost one. I know, you have your way with hand grips and tape and all kinds of trash, but on my little boat, we keep it simple. |

I'm already one step ahead of you. I couldn't remember how I did it and it took me about 5 minutes to get the hang of it.
The best I can describe it is 1. Around the tree 2. Stick your head up through the hole 3. Then you crank down on it and force the knot to flip back over on itself. |

The gaff on the OuterLimits was the same and I wanted to ask them to show me how to do it. You Rock Jim. Thanks.
