Super Delegation...2/27
I've spent enough time out here on the east coast lately, deeply entrenched in the underbelly of the custom Carolina boat building world, to start recognizing some common familiarity amongst these charming southern towns. For example, the popularity of home-made sausage and biscuits at just about every meal permeates the region, and while i'm certainly not complaining about this i do appreciate the humor surrounding this little idiosyncrasy. As a matter of fact i am at this very moment hurtling south down #17, typical temporary southerner with a belly full of sausage biscuits, gravy, and overly sweet iced tea. Not that i feel like a North Carolinian or anything, but i'm definitely reaching an agreement of comfortability with the place.
It's funny as we hurtle south towards Wilmington once again that a fellow Canadian, Chad Krieger lead singer of Canadian rock sensation Nickleback, reaches out to me through the radio, illustrating an important lesson pertinent to paying attention while traveling abroad. Like Chad sings in their most recent catchy tune, "we all just want to be big rock stars", and i couldn't help but agree with him. As we sing along to the lyrics we laugh hysterically as the local radio station blacks out the word "drug" every time it comes around in the chorus. Ironically it's almost as though the south is proud to say "Go ahead and endanger yourself with cholesterol laden sausage biscuits and gravy at every pit-stop...just don't say the word 'drugs' in public while you're at it." Pay attention to these little ironies and you just can't help but chuckle at this southern sense of unintentional humor. "So what happened up there in Wanchese anyway?" i've heard 20 times during consecutive phone conversations today. "What didn't happen?" i've answered back continually. I know it's rude to answer a question with a question, but what can you do? Wanchese packs a lot of history and influence into it's tiny little biosphere and i'll be damned if i'm going to be the one to make some decipherable sum of it. Better left to the Wancheseonians, i conclude...so be it. This morning over breakfast, you guessed it...sausage biscuits, i perused my new, signed copy of "Carolina Flair" while the very people and the boats they were made famous for kept watch over me from faded photos carefully hung above the latest high-water lines around the walls. Flood inducing storms and custom boat building go hand in hand along the outer banks of North Carolina, and nowhere are the signs of history more apparent than Wanchese, Nags Head, or Pirates Cove. These truly small towns reminded me a lot of where i grew up in British Columbia. Small towns with close knit communities of interesting, artistic folks who eek out livings from the wild, natural environments from which they spawned are hauntingly similar wherever i've roamed. Were it not for the sassy, million dollar sportfishers birthed on a yearly basis from the womb of Wanchese quietly pulling on their moorings around me i would have sworn i was back in British Columbia. Alas, the damp, chilly seaside surrounds may look familiar...but all aspects of nautical similarity end there. The deeper i delve into this world of custom sportfishers the more educated and efficient i become at making sound decisions on a myriad of levels. Tough questions need to be answered almost daily pertinent to actual needs, whimsical wants, and viable plans for the future. Critically important stuff when millions of dollars are on the table and you are burdened with the responsibility of spending it wisely. At first glance it sounds like a lot of irresponsible fun to have a pile of someone else's money in front of you to blow, but the harsh reality of the situation proves contrary. Particularly when the boss is of military descent and arguably much more intelligent when it comes to things like negotiations and money than you are. Oh yes there is pressure there to perform flawlessly, i won't kid you. Thankfully, i'm often found reminding myself...i am a professional. So the search narrows down to two potential candidates. Barak and Hillary if you will. And just like the election most Americans are plowing towards, both potential victories boast monumental ramifications. There's no super delegates inside my head to sway me one way or the other however, so i'm left alone with my balloting. Either way there's no doubt about one thing - FOR ALL INTENTS AND PURPOSES WE HAVE SURELY ALREADY WON!

Damn it man, I'm just getting settled in here in the T&C and you go and post this. I think I'm homesick now, but you gotta ease up on the sausage biscuits and get you some country ham and cheese biscuits with a side of buttery grits...

We make a trip there every year, vist some yards, kick around town, hire a trip out of Oregon Inlet. The aquarium there was better than I expected, if you're bored one day give it a shot.
Make sure they run the wires for the camera's before they seal her up. I know you're going to use them and I'm looking forward to the video. ...and Josh, for your bosses sake, vote Republican!

I have to sneak my daily sausage biscuit.
Not only that but no wrappers in the trash, cars, truck bed, etc. The biggest question is....which of the chains makes the best biscuit. Chick, Biscuitville, Bojangles, Hardees. I had a Neeses at the rod show over the weekend that beat them all, but out of the Fasties, who rules? |

That's some funny chit right there...i can imagine you making sure there's no greasy fingerprints on the steering wheel either!
I've been lucky and have followed local knowledge throughout my travels...no fastie sausages yet for this discerning traveler... OK wait...that's a lie... I did rip one down at Mickie D's in Charlotte last week...but it was weak in comparison to the ones served up in Wanchese...my overall favorite so far this journey!

This million day marathon to CHOOSE the party delegate is ridiculous...I love living and working in the USA, but we gotta change the election process... Maybe put me and Josh on the next ticket? Hunter S. Thompson, et al...."Where the Buffalo Roam" Campaign promise: Big fish, big fun!
