I have taken a few boats from Alabama to Alaska viva panama and experienced what Satan is talking about, what happens is the push of the water off the bow is actually a sideways motion and the tuna, and I have seen stripers in the mexico side doing the same thing swim almost sideways in the surf of the waves to balance out otherwise they just get pushed out of the strike zone they like to swim in and when this happens you will see them scoot off but come right back when it happens, man I miss those days keep it coming Satan!!!PEACE

Fess...
Rite now we are 150+ nm offshore. Now we are on location, latched to the wellhead drilling ahead. The Spirit is full class 2 DP. Head is into a 2-3 knot southeast current (Loop Current Eddy Albert). Walker Ridge block 371.
26-35-57 N, 091-00-00.0 W. The pictures and video are from the last transit we did for running our Blow Out Preventer Stack and Riser equipment to the bottom. 4.5 Knots at Transit speed. One pretty significant cold front that passed through took Barometric pressure to 1037mb, dropped the air temp down to 40 for 2 days and knocked about 6-8 degrees off the sea surface temp.

Now that we are stationary, we can start putting hooks to the fish (check out the Gulf Coast forum for shots of that). But like I said, main reason I am putting he pics and vids up here is cause this takes place while we are moving. Those fish are in he bow wave riding it like you see a porpoise. Once the movement of the vessel disturbs the water and gets the flyers moving, the tuna explode on them.

We are an ultra deepwater drillship. Rite now our well is located in 6288 ft of water. Walker Ridge peaks at about 5800ft where we are, but drops off to almost 11000 ft with in 3/4- 1 mile from that spot.
Your other question: Three weeks on, three weeks vacation...

Fastwater...
Did you notice the majority of the feeding headed away from the boat or towards the boat? Out here, I have seen both. The tuna seem to try and position themselves to trap the flyers up against the hull. But they have no problem cold cocking them going away from the ship either.

it you could see it out side rite now youd prolly be in tears. i was up in my roost and i started counting. the tuna are feeding in waves rite now. im guessing there are about 40 fish to a pod, and they are doin laps around the ship. counter clockwise. saw a big blue today, bout a half mile to the north. he was eating something. big fish, whole body outta the water
