Hi Jason,

Yes you're right !! Last year I had a strong strike from a 1000+ blue on 80lbs with a Joe Yee medium plunger single hook (Jobu 10/0)...Unfortunatly after 45 minutes a breaking occured on the main line (Sufix key lime)...After a check of the line Yann Colas and I have noticed an abrasion of the mono on maybe 30 meters .

According to my friend Capt. Peter Bristow who is based in Madeira : 2 possibilities

1 : The fish ran through the line (The fish pulled on lot of line out of the spool)
2 : A shark following the fish (It's happened to Peter when he was on the GBR with his old magical boat : AVALON)

During my last trip to Rodrigues in one day we had 6 bites from blue and black and 4 fishes T&R.

Last point : I will be in Rodrigues next march

Enjoy

That is one hell of a fish, and welcome to the site Jerome. One question where is Rodrigues Island located?

Hi,

Rodrigues is located 600 km far east to Mauritius in the Indian Ocean...Next march it will be my third trip and each time I had red hot action with : Blues, Blacks, very fat doggies, wahoos, Mahi-mahi, GT, Sharks...

for more info : http://www.rodfishingclub.com/

You can also send e-mail directly to Yann (the Captain) : contact@rodfishingclub.com

Yann is a very talented young captain..and his boat provide such a perfect ride, it's really a huge fishing experience

Enjoy

Thumbs up

Awesome job! How long a run is it to the fishing grounds there? Looks like fish may have been on the deck for a while after the short fight....was it a half day or full day charter?
Rodski...(I just came on board here too)(science)(allen) anyway, I'd have to say the Cav. too Bob. Looked like a Fred-type hook arrangement from first set of photos, but last close up photo I can see what looks like the second hook just out of the bottom of skirts I think.
