A final thought on this year's Pirates Cove Tournament as I wait for my Flight out of Norfolk, VI back to Sunny and NON HUMID So. Cal..
The tournament was great for Melton and myself, I had the opportunity to meet and talk to allot of vendors and fishermen in our industry, it was good to meet some of our customers in person, fill them in on what's going on at Melton and also to develop new customers and friends. I feel this tournament will continue to grow and improve, for first time new Directors (Nick. Joanna) things went very well IMO, the sponsors are treated right at the Pirates Cove, full support from their staff and you can't beat the food and drink VIP package for the entire week that comes with the sponsorship. The venue is awesome with everything held in one great location, if you have thought about fishing this tournament I would recomend it from what I have witnessed. Fishing was not exceptional as the results attest but the 2 Big Blue Marlin on day Three provided the BUZZ they needed and a decent amount of billfish where caught and released, weather got difficult the last 2 days and the heat/humidity was grueling but people got it done. OK, back to get ready for the So. Cal Striped Marlin tournament season in September, there are a number of tournaments on Catalina Island that draw the top dogs in Striped Marlin fishing. The Two Big Ones are: Riviera Yachts/Zane Grey and The Catalina Classic I will be fishing and working both Tournaments for Melton aboard the 43' Riviera Bali-Ann with my crew and I will see about providing similar SFC coverage on the site if logistically Possible. Thanks for checking out the thread and the good words and big thanks to all the guys/gals who helped us out in Pirates Cove... A big Thank You goes out to Offshore Innovations, Kevin and Chris for their support at the Tournament, The OI dredge ornaments at the BAR where a big hit! Johnny,
I enjoyed meeting you at Pirates Cove. Thank you for holding the sportsman release knife for me. Meltons service continues to be top notch. Thanks, Jimmy |

catalina classic
Hey there Johnny,
I'll be out at the classic this weekend doing a freelance feature on the tournament. I'd love to get a few minutes with you one of the days and pick your brain with a few questions on the growth of the sport if you have time? regardless, good fishing to you during the event. Mark |
