You guys say the hub diameter is to big ? I really thought it was just the skirt it was thicker right there on the top then on the bottom. How do determine what the hub diameter should be? I'm also having a hard time polishing the head to be flawless. I have a bench grinder with polishing wheels, I sand with 400 grit then 600 and then 2800. When I polish them they actually come out duller than when I sanded them with the 2800 grit. I don't know if it's from the rouge or what?

I use the white stick rouge, and a loose buffing wheel. I normally use 220, 320, 600, 1500 wet on the lathe, then buff to a high shine with no problem.

WHAT REALLY AMAZES ME IS THE WHITE "SKIRT" ON THIS LURE.....IT APPEARS TO BE SHAPED FROM MARINE SEAT CUSHION VINYL......LOOKS A BIT LIKE NAUTOLEX VINYL

VERY INNOVATIVE! I LOVE IT!

the white vinyl

It is whatever white vinyl material I had available in 1968 when I skirted the lure. Back then, very few people used the octopus skirts of today. In fact, I can't remember whether they were even available. Lots of "oil cloth" (a term that might date you if you have heard it before), inner tube rubber (red preferred), and sheet plastic of a variety of kinds.

Fantastic work guys. I have been making my own lures for many years, but all the beauty I thought mine had are now appearing to be but ugly ducklings compared to these. I am impressed by the level of ability most of you have.

I make all my own designs. Unfortunately, I havent been able to make any since I got married.... I moved to a condo, and no garage to do it in. All kinds of quality lure making gear (Lathes, molds, resins etc) sitting in storage rotting away.

That said, I love to look at yalls designs. One day I want to get back to it.

You can pick up small quantities of clear casting resin at an arts and crafts supply store - like Michaels... They also have modeling clay, pigments, glitter, etc.

If you want to purchase more advanced stuff, like urethane casting resin, Silicone mold rubber, bulk quantities, the following are pretty good...
