It's anyone's guess as to whether or not Jesus did in fact walk on water way back when as the Bible says...complex arguments could be made on behalf of both camps, but after the events i witnessed over the weekend and late last week i think it's safe to say if Jesus did in fact pull it off he may have had a little help...in the form of FROTHING FOAMING MADNESS...and if it resembled anything like what went on out there a few days ago then yes, indeed, i would have to say it would qualify as an act of biblical proportions...

I feel like a jackass in hindsight, reading back over the reports from the past month with egg on my face and a sense of shame hanging over me like a radioactive cloud...how could i doubt her?...how could i possibly challenge the divine power and preciousness of this great area? As pathetic as conditions were for a while there, in the grand scheme of larger equations i'd have to deduce that i fired up the "chicken little bandwagon" perhaps a little too early...a few weeks of shitty fishing and blustery conditions and we, or more pointedly me, start complaining???? BLASPHEMOUS SHAME ON YOU BASTARD SINNERS!!! How terribly soon we forget what can happen out there...

Well i shall saunter down to confession amigos...i'll pay my penance...recite hail Mary's, perform vewdoo magic, heck i'll even offer up a mayan sacrifice to forgotten pagan gods...whatever and whenever it takes to make things right...LESSON LEARNED...i shall never doubt the great Puerto Vallarta again because if Jesus was around this weekend, divine power or not, he could have played ultimate frisbee across the surface of the water out there...and that amigos...is NOT AN EXAGGERATION...

While we're at it let's bless the south current that's been running out there for the better part of two weeks...bringing with it cleaner, warmer waters full of teeming masses of pelagic fish...star performers like marlin, tuna, sailfish, and dorado...can i get a hallelujah? I SAID CAN I GET A HALLELUJAH?!?!?!

And unto the night a thousand glorious voices rose in harmony..."HALLELUJAH!!!!!!!! HAAAAAAAAAALLLELUJAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!! SWEET SUCCULENT INNOCENT BABY JESUS HAAAAAAAAAALLLLELLUJAAAAAAAHHHH!!!"

PRAISE THE LORD! Amen...

Yes kids it's been like the second coming out there...fire and brimstone giving way to days of sheer pescatorial bliss...wide open tuna bites on lures at the rock, marlin and dorado fighting tunas for poppers, bare silver circle hooks catching otherwise picky tunas, incredible non-stop carnage worthy of a psalm...amigos...what the fish lacked in size they made up for in sheer tenacity...if i had not been there to see it...i would truly find trouble in believing it all...

Perhaps the most stunning example of this madness came on friday when the waters around Corbetania literally boiled with foaming madness...dozens of bait balls, some of which over an acre in size, rose from the depths...parted the seas...and made every attempt imaginable to get the hell outta dodge...hordes of savage tunas, marlin, dorado, sailfish, pargos, and god only knows what other creatures from below tore into the mayhem with open mouths and at full terminal velocity...

We would literally back into a bait ball and cram the bait tank, buckets, cockpit...ANYTHING WE COULD FIND...with thousands upon thousands of baby caballitos and threadfin...literally reaching into the water with our bare hands only to have dozens of baitfish crawling over themselves to get out of harms way and into the relative safety of our palms...can you imagine what those poor little bastards must have been thinking???? Bad, bad day to be a baitfish around these parts amigos...it was true sodom and gomorrah type chit...

At one point we had free swimming tunas launching across the swim step on the Conquistador...one after another 20 - 80# tunas sliding across the swim step in a maddening display of sheer gluttonous terror...it was nuts...it was BEYOND NUTS...it got to the point where we just stopped throwing hooks in the water, electing to sit back and enjoy one of natures most awe inspiring shows instead...actually the time it took to shut down the motors and clean out all the baitfish stuck in the raw water system gave us all the time we needed to enjoy the freakshow going on around us...

Suffice it to say we've been having some fun out there...the tunas are back, the marlin are showing up for the spring migration, dodo's and sails have thawed out and have started feeding again...folks...we are a go for launch once more...

Out on the Conquistador for much of the mayhem although we did sneak in a trip on the Boomer yesterday with Mr. Fee, the Colonel, Slim Shady, Lemon, Animal, et al...and as per usual the Boomer and i got along just fine as she allowed me to contort her 68' of pleasure into every position imaginable...catching marlin, sailfish, dorado and a box full of tunas before enjoying some spectacular NFL action on the satellite TV during the trip home...yeah...i know...IT DOESN'T GET ANY BETTER THAN THIS!!!

Tomorrow i'm out with Capt Herk and Sue for a couple of days to break in Herk's new motors...who knows where we'll end up but i can guarantee you one thing...there will be stories to tell upon our return...

So that's the update for now amigos...or, as usual, as much of it as i can remember!

Looks like they need to invest in a fish bag and some ice. Lots of meat going to waste.
