East Coast Fishing Season

Guys,

Just curious, How long in October or November will you keep fishing? Also, do you usually see bigger fish later in the season when the temp. ranges get more extreme for the fish you are chasing?

I have heard that the late season bite is best for big tuna's at the Canyon's?

We will be fishing the canyons untill we pull the boat out of the water in mid November.

Later in the season we see the 200-300 pound bluefin show up in the Hudson. They should be here now but they must be up north still. The Albacore also tend to run larger in October and November

In NC we never stop. At least I don't. If I take down time which I did, its Aug & Sept.

In the south east sail and swordfishing heat up but crowds are thin... Still some mahi to keep it all inetresting and enough small tuna-oids around to make it worth a try for a blue one...

Up north I concur that the big 200-300 class bluefins should be around the hudson... If not yet ... soon...

Jim is right about North Carolina. Winter can be full swing.
Wahoos to the south and tuners to the north through Xmas. Kings all over, just moving a bit offshore. Sails showing up here and there.
Bluefins (large mediums and small giants) arriving in Nov.
Bottom fishing the best of the year through the holidays. Mostly groupers with sea bass showing as the water cools
Little tunny and the sharks that eat them around throughout the cold months.
Pelagics (yellowfins, wahoos and bills get started again in February.
Inshore, speckled trout and drum around all winter, especially on sunny afternoons.
Bermuda high pressures during the cold months make me very, very anxious to be offshore.

Will hope to fish year around this year. Last year alot of guys did this up in the jersey area and I may attempt it this year. My last tuna trip will be late nov if the weather allows me.

Then onto Sea bass and tile fish.

John - didn't you get a hog tile in the past six months?

I heard those things taste great. What other species of fish do they taste like?

Jason we did well with the tiles this year, a couple in the 50 lb range and a bunch of 40's .
Like Mako Killer just said the doggies will get real thick and the blue fish.

Im not sure what else they taste like but they are damn good.

My wife eats no fish at all but she loves tile fish.
She dips it in butter and says it taste like lobster , im not sold on that but will say it taste really good.

Tracy-

As Whitey said, way, way, way , way north of the DMZ the tuna bite really get better in October into November. However, the good bite usually shifts from a troll to a chunking mode overnight. Personally, I'll fish as long as the weather allows me. Hopefully things will lay down a little.......the fleet has been pinned to the dock up my way for the last 4-5 weeks with gale warnings and seas 10-20 ft on some days.
