Downrigger line-Mono or Braid??
I have a Penn 600 fathommaster that gets used for Bluefish trolling and inshore tuna. Mono or braid? what Lb. and knots or crimps? Thanks.

I prefer to use 200 or 250 lb spectra. IMO, it is better than wire because it doesn't make as much noise as it cuts trough the water. I don't know of many guys using mono. 200lb mono would have a lot of drag in the water.
You can tie your knots to the snap swivel the same as you would with mono just use a few more turns/twists in the knot your using. -Hunter

I concur with Hunter.
Going a bit farther to add Berkley Braid 220# solid braid is what we use on our downriggers. That stuff is the shiz!

I agree, braid over 200lb is my recommendation. It will slice through the water better then wire, and I would not use mono at all, it just is not worth it IMHO. The braid will require less line to get down and will create less drag, also allowing you to get down deeper.
