best high quality spinning reel?
Does anyone have any expertise on the various new spinning reels out there?
I've got a bunch of Penn ss models and Stradics, but I'm looking for a couple I can use with braid and heavier drag settings. Can anyone give opinions on Stellas, Van Staal, Saltiga, Accurate and the like? I think the ZeeBaas might have to wait until the stock market gets itself back in line. Many thanks for any guidance. |

with out a doubt, hands down Shimano has been making the best hardcore spinning reels for years. The stella series has more drag and power than most 50w's. I own 2 stella 10,000's and 2 stella 20,000's. They all have over 60lbs of drag and have a ton of line capacity. Remember Shimano is a gear company by trade. We would cast topwaters for bluefin tuna of cape cod and have 100lb fish to the boat within 5-10 minutes every time. Ive caught big sharks on them as well.
Now with that said Diawa saltigas, Accurate twin spins are all great reels. They just havent been producing them for as long. My vote for hardcore jigging and popping is with Shimao Stella. |

I'd throw a vote in for Stellas too- I have three of them and can't stand using anything else. Powerful and silky smooth every time.

I have owned a Van Stall 300 for about 3 seasons and have caught multiple tuna to 100 pounds on it and just recently I bought a Stella 10000 after hearing good results from both Shoefish and Gman. I have not been able to use the Stella yet but I can't wait. Both are Beautiful looking reels.
Below are a few picture of the Van Stall in action and the results. [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

250 van staal matched up with their 50 - 80 5'8 jigging rod and you are in business. We started off with the trevala rods and they are probably the best rod you can get for 100 bucks. But found the van staal rod to cast a little better. For my jigging rods we use accurate 870 with the trevala rods and they will put a hurt on a 100 pound fish.

....never fished a Van Stall or a Fin-Nor spinning reel, just to much $$$ for what I need
almost all of my saltwater spinning reels are Shimano: Stradics, Sustains and Baitrunners and I've never had ANY issues out of ANY of them..... ![]()
