Low Country Boil aka Saxis Island, VA Steamer....

Hell yeah...we had a serious feast at Saxis Islander's house on Tuesday evening. Me, Saxis Islander and ESAngler and families tore up some fine southern Eastern Shore fare...steamed crabs, shrimp, red potatoes, clams, clam fritters, corn and sausage. There was beer and some smooth moonshine to wash it all down...don't be jealous, we'll try to invite more next time.
The pictures are after the meal, should have taken a picture of the pile before we ate!

Years ago, I fished the ESMT & always enjoyed the Thursday night food fest. When you described the fare you offered, it reminded me of that event.

Also pleased to see you flying the Army of Northern Virginia Battle Flag.

ANY GIVEN TUESDAY

LCB?????? You can't git that shit at the LCB!

We had a blast...probably more fun because it was an impromptu event....Parker (the Lil' Redneck) caught the clams, we stole the sweet corn....crabs were donated by Kelly Price...Bill caught the roe laden roundheads and flounder, Fontanini was from the sample freezer. Eggs, flour, beer and shrimp were the only things we had to buy.

The full contact hoops game after the feed was hilarious!

I'd like the recipe for that LCB if you could. The only recipe I've used came from a book named "embarrasement of mangoes".

I can list it here if anyone wants, its great, but looking for other variations.

Thanks,
Mike

First, we all need to understand that the Low Country Boil has multiple names. The real name is Frogmore Crab Boil or Frogmore Stew. I grew up in Frogmore (on St. Helena Island, SC) and we ate it all the time. The Yankees have moved in and change the name of the town to St. Helena; however, for those of us in the know it will always be Frogmore!

As you get further away (geographically) from Frogmore the name becomes Beaufort Stew. Once you get out of SC the name seems to become Low Country Stew, Low Country Boil, or Low Country Supper. If you want to impress your friends then call it by it's real name!

The ingredients are shrimp, crab (seasonal), new potatoes, corn, sausage, and Old Bay Seasoning.

Here is a simple (yet accurate) recipe:

and another:
