From what I can tell, it is best to pull off the legs first before you fry them, but you can eat the shell. It apparantly gets very brittle and easy to eat when fried. I think I'm going to try the softshell ones first when I can find them though.

Why don't you make a sand flea sanctuary. You could raise them and wait until they molted and fry those babies up. I would try the soft-shell first as well, don't want to take a chance of the shell coming out wrong

I don't eat oysters, but I tried them first before I made that decision. Just to think who was the first one to try an oyster, crab, shrimp, or mussel. I'm sure their fellow indians or whoever thought they were crazy too.

Capt. John, sound's OK to me. The old timers around here would talk about the day's when they'd catch shrimp in the sound for pennie's a pound. Some even said they remembered when they first started catching them. They said no one around here would eat them, sold them for feed or something. I don't know I wasn't around then. It seem's that's the way thing's are going. I'd like to have a dollar for every dogfish I cut out of a net and threw back overboard, now they can't get enough of them.

I just tried them, they were tastier just rolled in flour, but tempura was also good, I need to find some bigger one's, they really do taste like a cross between shrimp and crab.

You are absolutely right. Much of we think is cr*p is table fare in other parts. Barnacles are commonly eaten in Europe. Go figure.

I haven't tried them but, if they're good, don't tell the fricken tree huggers. They'll want to close the beaches.
