Food Saver Help
Hey guys, how's it going?
I am looking to buy a food saver or vaccum sealer or whatever you call them. Can someone please tell me what the good one to get is? I am going to be using it for fish fillets. I don't want to buy junk. I would rather spend the money the first time and buy a good one. Thanks

O-Sea-D,
I have one of the older Food Saver models that works great. The thing I like about it the most is that it has a manual seal button that allows you to seal bags without vacuming them at all or to seal a bag at any point during the vacuming process. This helps because sometimes, especially with fish, the machine will vacum too much and actually damage the fish inside the bag. It is just a nice option to have and I've seen a lot of newer models that don't even have this button and you have to completely rely on the machine to seal at the right time. Other than that I would just make sure to get a brand name one that has a good rep and not a knock off to save a few bucks. My buddy had one of the cheaper ones and ended up throwing it away and getting a name brand. They are great for freezing all kinds of stuff and they work really good for marinating as well. |

John, I have one that I picked up a few years ago that I cuss every time I use. It works at about 75% out of 100% but does get the job done.
If I had to do it over again I would get this one. Nothing but good reviews from folks I know that have it. Definitely get what you pay for in these things. http://www.cooking.com/products/shpr...2B%26spell%3D1 |

I have had the Cabelas CG-15 for about 2 years now and it's far better than any FoodSaver model that I have used. I use it for packing fish, freezing fresh bait, etc. More $$, but has not given me any problems.

I'm on my second Food Saver and I really don't have any complaints other than the price of the bags or rolls.
I've been looking at a commercial sealer that doesn't require special bags, but can't seem to justify it yet - but here you go - http://www.butcher-packer.com/pages-...-shipping.html |

I have the plain old regular Foodsaver from Sam's club. I do all my food going into the freezer with it(fish, beef, pork, chicken, etc.) I haven't had a problem yet - working on three years.

I AGREEN WITH DENNIS...I HAVE THE PRO II .....AND IT NEVER FAILS ME
I KEEP IT CLEAN...EXTREMELY CLEAN.... THE KEY TO USING ONE IS YOU MUST PAT DOWN THE FILLETS WITH A PAPER TOWEL PRIOR TO SEALING AND SUCKING THE LIFE OUT OF IT ![]()
