Empowering the World’s Up and Coming Chefs
The School of Fish Foundation is a non-profit organization co-founded by Shannon Ronalds and Chef Robert Clark of C Restaurant in Vancouver, British Columbia. Robert is already known as one of the industry leaders in sustainable seafood and C Restaurant is the founding member of Vancouver Aquarium’s Ocean Wise program.
Tremendous strides have been taken in Canada to allow other restaurants to benefit from the Ocean Wise seal of approval and the next step in advocating change is to start at the very beginning with talented young chefs at the start of their careers.
The School of Fish Foundation is dedicated to persuading culinary schools throughout the world to include a comprehensive sustainable seafood course as a requirement prior to graduation.
The School of Fish Foundation will provide the curriculum and subject materials for this required course in order to empower the world’s up and coming chefs to bring change to the restaurant industry worldwide.
Talented culinary graduates often circle the globe during the span of their careers to fulfil their passion for cooking and as a required subject; the lessons learned from the School of Fish Foundation program will stay with them for a lifetime.
To introduce budding chefs to this concept will allow them to enter the workforce with the knowledge, ability and desire to continue the work already in motion.
The School of Fish Foundation will provide schools with all of the support and scientific data that is available by working closely with established marine conservation organizations.
In July last year the School of Fish Foundation built the Plastic Dining Room restaurant, a raft made out with recycled plastic bottles.
With the assistance of their marine engineer and with all safety regulations taken into account, The School designed and built this luxurious dining room which stayed afloat with the use of 1,675 plastic 2-litre bottles built into its frame.

This elegant raft was moored alongside the prestigious False Creek Yacht Club. C Restaurant, one of Canada’s most recognized seafood restaurants catered a multi-course sustainable seafood menu with an environmental message (designed by chef Robert Clark) while School of Fish Foundation’s founder, Shannon Ronalds, served in true fine dining style.

All part of an initiative by the School of Fish Foundation, its goal was to raise awareness in the world’s ocean resources. The floating plastic represented the issue of our oceans becoming a collecting ground for discarded plastic; one of the many threats to our seafood supplies.
