    COOKING OILS

I JUST DEEP FLASH FRIED FROZEN CHICKEN NUGGETS AND THEY WERE SHOCKINGLY GREAT ..."CHARTERHOUSE BRAND BUFFALOE NY"

MY QUESTION IS: DO YOU GUYS AND GALS SAVE USED COOKING OIL ...CANOLA, VEG' ETC?

IS SO.... HOW DO YOU STORE IT? AND IF YOU DO REUSE IT...DO YOU LEAVE THE SMALL PIECES OF CRAP IN IT OR DO YOU STRAIN IT?

You can save it no problem.

You should strain it to get all of the chunks out and make sure to label the oil that you used for fish.

If you fry french fries or anything that has a mild taste in the oil that had fish. They will taste a bit fishy.

You can store it in the plastic container that it came in.

Remember those littly frydaddys? They had a lid like tupperware so you could just keep the oil in the appliance.

I like to use peanut oil as it has the highest flash point, but some times use canola oil if I am cooking for a large group of people and don't know all of them, due to the fact that some people are alergic to peanuts.

If you look at some of the old time joints that use deep fryers they have oil that is over 50 years old. They just keep straining it and adding more as needed.

They claim it makes the flavor that much better.

I save the oil that I use deep frying turkeys at thanksgiving and have never had a problem.

    Good luck

Wahoonbox, we use an old peanut oil container...5 gallon / turkey cooker oil. Or a large milk jug for small amounts of oil / fry daddy. Label it used and strain into it. A fine strainer and funnel. After 3 maybe 4 uses.....with fish.....it is done. I will pm you if you want to know what I do with it then. Now chicken is fried in little oil in no stick pans. I have never reused that, because of the little amount...but you have me thinking here..... over time you accumulate enough for other uses. Again I have a diesel truck so ............... The cats follow me around

    edit:

marty do you fry pickle chips? along with the chicken or fish.....Now the pickle chips are the shizzle.....

I do a lot of frying and I strain it through a little cheese cloth and reuse it. Jst get the big chunks out..peanut oil is the best for deep fat frying, but I use olive oil for pan frying stuff. Fried pickles slices are good, try deep fat frying a hamburger...out of this world.. and lets not forget the deep fat fried Snickers Bar...the list goes on..................

Here you go BOX...give this one a shot..
    Deep Fried Snickers..
    1 egg
    1 cup milk
    1 tablespoon vegetable oil
    1 cup all-purpose flour
    1 teaspoon baking powder
    Pinch of salt
Candy bars (Mars, Snickers, Almond Joy, Kit Kat or Twix)

Chill or freeze the candy bars

Combine egg, milk and vegetable oil in a cup.

In a bowl, combine flour, baking powder and salt. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix well with a wire whisk. Cover and chill for a few minutes while the oil heats.

Remove batter from the refrigerator and adjust the consistency if necessary. Heat about 4 cups of oil or shortening to 375 degrees F. Dip the chilled candy bar in the batter and gently place into the oil. Cook only until the outside is golden. Remove and drain on brown paper. Allow to cool for a minute as the inside can easily burn your mouth.
