SJCFA Fly Fishing Day
South Jersey Coastal Fly Anglers had a fly fishing event along some sod banks in the Stone Harbor Wildwood area. We had about 20 some anglers show up predawn to give it a try.
Here are some hardy anglers that showed (we are good at coffee and donuts) ![]() Unfortunately, with the new moon and a strong northeast wind. The water was way up over the sod banks making fishing difficult at best. There was a lot of straw in the water an you had to be careful not to go off the edge of the banks. Plus it was cold and raw with a stiff wind in our face. The water was cold with the incoming tide and no one was getting any action. As soon as the doughnuts and coffee arrived we all took a break and decided to split up and try a couple of other locations. A group of us head to Cape May Point and another group head to Corsons. When we got to the point it was sunny and warm but the water was very brown from the wind and super high tides. None of us had any hits and we ran into a bunch of members from a fly club in Delaware who where at the point on the club fishing outing. With the water so much better in the Stone Harbor area we shot back there to work a different area and found it still cloudy and cold with the same cold northeast wind blowing. Again none of us got anything. Left the cold condition and went home to Cape May where it was sunny and warm. Big difference in the weather with just ten miles difference. By mid-afternoon with the incoming tide the weather changed to cold and cloudy with a good wind off the ocean. A few of us were going to give it a try in the boat but just we didn't feel like fighting mother nature anymore.
