Rod Holders

Who uses what?

I've tossed around the idea of buying some of the new rod holders for the boat that are designed for flyrods. I've heard good things about the IFly version, but don't wanna spend $100+ to hold 4 flyrods.

I'm thinking about making up some below gunnel tubes for a rigged rod, but wanna have at least 4 for above deck.

What say you?

dave a friend of mine mkaes some i fly knock offs that you cant tell from the reel ones. i just ordered some king starboard rod holders for my below gunnel holdng. the new boat has open gunnels which alows so much more rod storage than my old proline. i actually had a horizontal fly rod holder made from the gray conduit pvc ont the proline because it had solid gunnels. let me know if i can help..

Dave, I have a pair of plastic fly rod holders that fit in a regular rod holder. They are made of plastic and do a good job. I would show you a picture but I just sent my digital camera away for repair. They cost about 20.00 each.

Lucky I have four rod tubes on boat to get rid of rods. Fly rod in an upright position are the kiss of death. I have learned that lesson too many times. Over the years we have broken 4 rod tips that way by having plug castors snag them. I never leave them in upright position except for moving from one spot to another..

John and Ray when you get a chance I'd love to see what you're talking about.

I know what you mean about rods being in danger when stored vertically.

Is that your Grady?

I hope I have that same pose this summer. Must have been one hell of a battle.

I started cutting on some PVC this afternoon and think I might have made something that will work.

How about my Grady and your fly rod for some big stripers in a few weeks?
I pick her up from Gootees this week after the annual spring tuneup.
