Nice afternoon

Was bored this afternoon and had to cancel my trip to the coast for a little sharkin in the surf.

Checked the tide/current for the home waters and decided to head east.

Got to the boat around 4:00....damn bridge traffic.

Launched and headed solo to the south and lost my transducer on the way. I chose to 5200 it to my transom instead of using screws....boat isn't the average bear. It's a duck boat that doesn't have a normal transom. Anyway. With just the GPS chart I went and searched an area I had heard was holding decent fish. Ended up jigging a few on the spinning rod and took a few dinks on the long rod too. about 30 fish in all. 10-24" rock and a real nice summer bluefish of about 18". It was one of those quiet peaceful afternoons on the bay.

will post some pics after tomorrow mornings adventures.

This guy wasn't on the fly, but was the best of the evening.

Sunday was another day of bailing the little guys on fly and spinning gear.

Did have one 24" fish with some shoulders on a BA in the morning.

Also some nice white perch and my first on the fly.

Couldn't keep the croaker away. Only got 2 flounder hook ups because the other fish were so thick.
I've spent the better part of my life on the water and seen some pretty cool stuff. Sunday was in the top 5 of my life. Me, Ed, and Mark saw about 100+ dolphin run through the flat and tear up the croaker. Some were pushing them...others were eating them. That's a big animal in 2 feet of water. I had one brush me. THey were swimming in between us for about 20 minutes. Totally killed the bite but we had caught plenty by then anyway.

Dave, in the picture, are you fishing off the beach in the ocean? Looked to be a nice day.

I was dying to get out today. Was away yesterday for my daughters birthday near Philadelphia. Cancelled this mornings fly trip. Had the air off and my curtains were blowing half way across the room and 4:30 a.m. Was blowing 20 plus gusting to about 28 mph. and with low tide I was planning on fishing the inlet and beach front. No way with the wind coming off the ocean. We are going to try tomorrow morning.

That's the dyke of a dredge spoil containment island. It used to be three islands. It's now one big one with a small one next to it. There is riprap around 90 % of it and they hold dredge spoils in it until the sediment leaches out. It's a 3 step process that takes quite some time. I believe they only accept spoils for something like 1.5 months out of the year. The place gets full of ducks in the winter and smells like a chicken farm in the summer.

Holds a lot of bait around it and can be a blast if you catch it on the right days.
