MD Maryland Trout Report

Well...
Sitting at my desk at work yesterday after lunch, I decided it was going to be the day to break the wadders out of the basement and get my newly cleaned 4wt fly line dirty again. It's that time of the year again; the time when my wading boots don't have enough time to dry out between trips.

So...
I figured I would start a new thread on here as a trout fishing report. So here goes...

Yesterday was an awesome first day. I went to Morgan Run in Carroll County, MD. DNR stocked the stream about 2.5 weeks ago now. I was knee deep in the water by 5:15pm. In about 2 hours of fishing, I netted 5 trout; 3 rainbow (all in the 12" range...definately the recently stocked fish) and 2 browns (one about 10" the other 14"). There are definately some nice size fish in there this year again. Everything was caught fishing deep. Two on hare's ear nymphs fished below split shot in deep holes, 2 more on a red san juan worm, and the last on a chartreuse wolly bugger. Such a good day, I'll probably be back today after work.

Anyone done the Upper Gunpowder lately? I used to fish it hard, but my Retriever Games habit has taken my time.

Was at the gunpowder about a week and a half ago. Oly fished for about two hours mid day and missed on a beaded pheasent tail nymph (those gunpowder trout are tricky!) in the riffles below falls road. I may go back on Sunday and fihgt the weekend crowds.

The stocked trout in Morgan Run are still working the bottom pretty good. Last weekend they got fished hard since the weather was so nice. Sunday evening there were a few browns biting on red San Juan worms fished deep. Monday evening there were quite a few rainbows hitting the surface around 6pm. Not quite sure what they were feeding on...maybe midges or an early mayfly hatch. This weekend I think I'm headed to hunting creek Saturday morning. Update to follow...
