Hard work paid off making for a good trip.

Was able to pull one out of the hat tonight! Left the dock tonight with a one person charter around 5:00 p.m. Guy does 4 to 6 trips with me a year and always wants me to fish along with him. (who could ask or anything more)

Started out slow. Tried the inlet with a strong breeze and couldn't get a strike, worked deepwater sod banks with more of the same. Worked about 2 miles of flats sod banks on a hit and run looking for bait or fish with only a 16 inch bass on a plug to show for it.

Then spotted a area where some terns were picking bait along a sod bank. Checked it out and found bass whacking spearing. For about an hour we picked away at the bass in this little 100 foot section, with most of the fish 20 to 24 inches. We had bass tailing in the grass at the top of the sodbanks and herring mixed in attacking the bait.

Joe was picking away at them with popping plugs and swimmers as I was trying to get them to take a fly after getting some on a popping plug.

Never had such a hard time getting feeding fish to hit. I tried everything that matched the hatch with no luck. Then I tried big flies with no luck. Finally tried solid black and started catching

When the action died we anchored off a creek mouth were we continued to take fish till about 9:30 when we quit for the night.

Ended the night with 22 bass with 7 on the flyrod for me along with some sea herring. Same guy scheduled for tomorrow night. Hope weather holds and we can do a repeat.

Got the repeat of yesterday. Totally unbelievable!!!

Just as we were to leave the dock the radar weather show a big green mass with good amounts of yellow, orange and red headed across the bay and we had some lightning and thunder. We canceled and went home.

Hour and a half later the radar showed all the bad stuff went to the south and it looked like just rain. We decided to head out.

Still a strong southerly wind blowing and a light drizzle. Worked flats for about an hour with no hits and decided to see if lightning would strike twice and try the two spots we had success with yesterday with it starting to clear up.

We started picking fish off a couple of points while working our way to our hot spot and for the second night in a row, we watched bass in a little area attack baitfish. In a two hour period we caught 18 fish on popping plugs, swimmers and flies. All the fish were nice for the most part. 22 to 25 inches with a couple of smaller ones.

When the action died we went to the creek mouth where we caught last night. Charter got one on the popping plug and I got one on the fly with a couple of misses. We left early as I have another trip tomorrow morning. We had a total of 20 bass of which I had 5 on the fly. Not a bad night with the flyrod considering I was steering the boat with the regular motor and trying to fly cast at the same time. Fun night for both of us.
