Nothing too big... a couple that hit the boga at 25lbs +/-, but mostly schoolies (peanuts at 10lbs). With out a doubt, they are the most fun on a fly rod... they go nutz and everyone I have put on them with the flyrod smiles like you have never seen.

I fish the Chesapeake most of the time and target Stripers. We get them in all sizes throughout the year. Blues, flounder, croaker too.

I've been known to trout fish too, but I prefer wooly buggers to any other fly, so I'm anything but a purist.

When boredom strikes I head down to a local lake and give the bass and panfish hell too.

Hope to get after some pelagics this year.

well i usually target stripers in the fall/winter. in the summer, spades, triggers, and other wreck species. i love fishing for sails in costa rica but thats only about 2-3 days a year... now that brad is into fly fishng we will prob be doing a lot more this summer(we fish almost every day in the summer on his carolina skiff) this year i would like to targert some more offshore species like tuna and dolphin. also would not mind trying to catch a few inshore sharks on the fly.. we have caught a few fishing a few miles off beach but not fly fishing.

We caught that bluefin off Massey's Canyon out of IRI about 4 years ago when people were just starting to go out and try the chunk thing on the fly. I caught a real nice mahi that day. We knew the angler in the picture was under gunned for a bluefin.. but if you knew the guy you'd understand. He is one of the best fly anglers I've ever met. Fish was gaffed in about an hour on a 9wt... we did go out just for tuna that day. Took a white deceiver.. Now, it's 14wts because the regs have changed and you want to return the fish unharmed ASAP. That bluefin was just under 50lbs... We were just starting to learn the fishery.. I don't think any of us believed we had a chance at hooking one but the captain was top notch. 9wts are no good for tuna for one reason.. not enough backbone for the heavy lifting at the end.. that damn fish went around 2 sea bass pots... tough getting fly line untangled from rope with a bluefin on the other end...
A 9wt can handle just about any inshore species around here. Cobia, striper, big blues, and other non pelagics.. I have caught some cool fish on a 9wt in cabo and australia. The toughest was an african pompano that went over 25lbs.. it was a beast.. The fastest was a small wahoo.. about 20lbs.. or a sierra... pacific version of a spanish mac on roids.. the wahoo split my left thumb to the bone with the handle of my reel. Wish I had picked up my 11wt.. but I had been catching medium sized snappers when the pompano hit..
