It was a disappointing weekend for fishing. My brother was up from Florida and with the high winds both days we couldn't get out to go fish either day.

Today around 5:00 pm I noticed there was very little wind. Not a great tide, but gave Peter a call and said lets do a hit and run trip for a couple of hours.

Left the dock 6:00 pm with only a couple hours left before low tide. We hit the inlet first and found the water 59 degrees and a bit dirty with a good amount of weed, so we shot to the back to work a couple of points, where the water was 58 degrees.

Pete started with a silver crease fly and I was using a yellow white and silver gurgler. We started getting small fish following our flies but found it difficult to get them to strike. Right around dusk we started hooking up. Pete had one 12 1/2 incher and I had two to a whopping 17 inches.

It was getting pretty dark and Pete said, let quit, the bite stopped and there are only dinks at best. Just as the last word came out of his mouth a decent fish slam dunked his crease fly and he had a nice bass hooked up on his 7 wt. I asked him if I should just cut his line and head for home or should we stay for him to reel it in.

We were anchored and fishing in 3 to 4 feet of water and the fish put up a nice fight taking him up current and around the boat once. It was a nice healthy 25 incher and the best fish of the night.

Petes fish with the crease fly.

We fished to 8:00 pm. and we caught 3 more dink stripers. With zero wind, a beautiful sunset and some fish on the fly we headed in as the tide was slowing down to a stop and were happy with our short trip and 6 fish for the night.

Think some better fish are starting to move into the area, as some are being caught on live bait. It has been way too windy to try the last few days, but things are looking better. I have to go away for a family wedding and hope things will have perked up by the time I get back next week as the colder weather has to start thinks moving.

No fishing for the last week. Was away for a mini vacation and a family wedding in New Bern North Carolina. Was hoping to get a shot at some fishing Saturday morning before the wedding but we had rain and 30 plus mph winds.

If I was a duck hunter I could of limited out with one shot.

Did talk to a guy who said last week there was good action on Fluke, sea trout and puppy drum. Weather cleared and got nice just about 2 hours before the wedding.

After the wedding visited relatives in western North Carolina where weather wasn't any better. Super high winds the whole time I was there. Low of 20 and high of 44 degrees. Hiked a few trails on the Blue Ridge Mountains one day with 1 inch of snow and 40 mph winds and did a 18 mile bike trip on a old rail line that ran through the mountains.

Should of had a rod as we went over many trestles and could see some nice trout in the pools below. Some looked to be 18 to 20 inches long.

Got home last night to find we had wind gusts here into the 60's and everything around the yard was all over, so it looks like I didn't miss much here on the fishing end.

Hope to get out the first nice day to see whats cooking. With all the wind the water looks super brown everywhere, but with the water temps down it should be time.

Wind died down and Peter and I decided to give it a shot. Left the dock at 10:30 to work the outgoing tide. Started at the inlet and found the water fairly brown, around 53 degree and we had a fairly strong wind from the south west.

We worked the inlet rocks pretty hard with buck tail deceivers and bunker flies and never got a strike on any side of the rocks and we never saw any bait. Did see a bird here and there picking, but nothing to get us excited.

With the fishing poor we decided to try the back where we thought the water might be a Little cleaner. Found it 54.5 and much cleaner. We worked it real hard and saw a couple of fish come up on some small bait around one sod bank. I got lucky and got only one hit and was able to hook up with a small 19 incher that took a all yellow epoxy head.

We worked a couple of normally great spots and it was dead, with no more signs or fish, so we quit early not wanting to beat a dead horse.
