Monday Night. Perfect weather and great fishing. Left the dock at 5:30pm. with a father and his six year old son to see if we could plug up some stripers. Went to the back bay flats and fished the warm last of the incoming tide.

The action started out slow with 3 small stripers in 2 1/2 hours of working popping plugs with 3 misses.

When the tide change we found on spot where the fish turned on and the pictures tell the rest of the story. They got 20 more stripers in the next hour and a half with three double hook ups.

Then the moon came out strong and the bite shut down.

Was the young boys first saltwater experience, only catching some small fishing in a lake before. He was pretty tired out by the time we got to the dock.

Different Story this morning. Had a Dad and three young kids. They wanted to leave the dock around 8:00 am. With no fishing skills the Dad and I tried to drum up a few fish on plugs while the light was still low, but it was dead calm and the bay was like a mirror. We got no strikes.

Went to plan B BAIT. Anchored up and chummed. Kids were happy as I think we caught every sand shark in the back bay. The kids loved them and keep wanted to catch more.

No blues, no stripers only tons of sand sharks and one sea robin.

We moved to three different spots and it was all the same, Sharks, Sharks and more Sharks.

Kids had a lot of fun, boat was a bloody mess from the chum and it was a hot day, but that is fishing some days.

Hubris 1, I try to have fun, but it gets tougher every year. Anymore you have to really work to put a good catch together. A few years back it was much easier when there was tons of bait in the back bay. Even though I have put a few good catches together, I believe there is something wrong in the back bay. I am putting my money on the spraying destroying the bait.

Another light tackle trip tonight. Left the dock at 5:00 pm with a dad and his son and daughter who had never saltwater fished before. With their limited casting skills I decide to try the inlet to see if there was any blue action with the warmer water around.

We worked the jetty rocks for about an hour with out a strike or seeing life. Did see a few small pods of bunker with nothing on them.

Worked the beach front where we got 2 fluke to 17 1/2 inches, 13 small weakies to 15 inches and a small bluefish. They were all taken on rubber storm baits.

With the tide starting out we headed to the back to see if we could get a striper for a Saltwater Grand Slam.

Found a area where I got each one a striper to complete the grand slam and we were back at the dock by 9:00 pm.

It was another beautiful night on the water and young anglers were excited to get their first saltwater catches.
