Party over for boat fishing. Decided to pull the boat out of the water today so I would not be messing with it during the holidays and with the weather to be pretty cold.

Took a quick run out to the inlet on the top of the tide and got a quick 20 incher on a bunker fly along the rocks on 400 sinking. Ran back in to pick up my buddy who was going to help me with the boat. We ran back out to the rocks but neither of us could get a hit. We even tried the back bay for an hour on a couple of nice point breaks, but again no strikes.

We had nice weather and the water was 46 to 46.4 which is warmer than it has been.

Atleast I got one fish on the last boat trip of the year, to get me through the winter. No birds, bait or fish to be seen anywhere.

Pulled the boat and found I had flat on one of my tandem wheels. (turned out to be a valve stem problem.)

Boat is all pressure washed cleaned up. Just have to flush engine and get it winterized and covered up.

Guess I will be a land fishermen the rest of the year.

Is it spring yet, I can't wait to get the boat back in the water.

Weather has been cold and windy since I pulled the boat. Guess it was good timing and it is nice to have it all taken care off before the holidays.

It hasn't even been nice enought to try the sod banks. Tomorrow is looking better so I might ge a couple of last shots with the fly rod.

I will just have to depend on all you southern fly fishermen to send in reports to make the winter go by a little faster.

Hope everyone has a short winter.

I want my boat back in the water. Decided to try from the sod banks near Stone Harbor. Beautiful afternoon. Zero wind on the start of the out going tide. Fished 4:00 pm. till 6:00 pm. Tried bunker and clouser flies.

Not a strike. No signs of any bait anywhere along the sod banks. Zero signs of life anywhere.

Last year in January I was catching bass and herring and seeing bait.

Will still keep trying but it was disappointing with such nice conditions.

Got home Saturday night and had a message from Jim Evans that he and a couple of guys from the fly club were going to give it a try Sunday morning and wanted to know if I wanted to join them.

Met with Reggie, Duane and Jim.

We had incoming tide. The water was the worst if have seen it. Maybe 8 inches of visibility and zero signs of any bait, herring or fish. We gave it a good shot. There was very little wind. It was cold and damp. We had good company, just no fish. Between the 4 of us we tried an assortment of flies and not one strike between us.
