Bonefishing in Hawaii
Ben came to Hawaii looking for some spinning rod action and got rewarded with some skinny water mahem. I think I may need to change his drag washers after all those bones ran like bats outa hell. His little deerhair leadhead jig was like a candy bar to the bones. We traded off on double hook ups, he with the spinner and me off the back of the flats boat with the fly rod. I think we had 3 double hook-ups that morning. The best fly this day was a white clouser style fly tied with my buddies dog fur from his tail. The dog loves it when a take a snip and name the fly after him. The PONO Fly!!! If anyones coming to Hawaii give me a call, super fun fishing. www.Hawaiionthefly.com |

Their are bonefish on all islands in the Pacific!!
Access and suitable habbitat is the key to finding these nuerotic gamefish. On Oahu we we flats around the whole island but only a few hold large numbers of fish. Weird how some flats hold big fish in the 8-15lb range and some flats hold schooly's 2-6lbs but all are fun and incredibly difficult to stock and catch. Making this an incredibly exciting fishery. I am an offshore fisherman by trade but have become addicted to these insane fish and the hunt that is involved to catch them.
With the boat on trailer we can hit all sides of the island in the same day if we need to move for tidal/visual reasons. hope you guys can get over to Hawaii and join the fun for a day! |
