Yellowfins, Wahoo, Blue Marlin and Mahi on the Hooked Up II but not much of night tuna bite
Pretty decent trip overall with a nice catch of Yellowfins mostly caught trolling, two Blue Marlins, one Wahoo and a load of Mahi. We fished outside the Lobster Claw around 40 fathoms and that is where most of the tuna were caught and ended up in the Lindy at night. This was an overnight trip so I was somewhat disappointed that we did not kill more Yellowfins at night as we only caught 2 all night as the day troll was much better for us than the night chunk bite although we did catch a Blue Marlin chunking at night. I think the temperature break holding the tuna might be a little farther north up towards the Carteret and Toms from what I gathered today and possibly the big body of tuna might still be a little north of where we fished last night where the water is a little cooler. I did get some late reports today that the tuna bite in the canyons to the north of us slowed down from what it was recently but I only heard this from one reliable source that fished up there last night. (Toms). I am hoping the water holding the Longfins and Yellowfins slides south some so we get a decent shot at the tuna like the boats to the north have had the last few days with 20 or more tuna per trip both at night and on the day troll.
In conclusion we did have a nice catch with quite lots of action along with perfect weather throughout the whole trip. Our charter seemed were very pleased with the trip and had high praise for my crew which always makes an owner happy. If we could have gotten into a few more tuna at night on jigs or chunks it would have been a great trip but no complaints by anyone on how the trip went. There is lots of boat out tonight trying to beat the windy weather coming our way this weekend and possibly we will hear of some good reports from the more southern canyons where we fish normally. WE will be going again tomorrow on another overnight trip but somewhat concerned about the weather on Thursday so we will probably fish a little closer to Cape May on this trip possibly inside the Spencer around 40 fathoms.
We do have all next week open for either a day troll or overnight trip and out next booked trips are on Sept 23,24,25.
When the charter sends me some pictures I will post them especially the two Blue Marlin we caught and released.
PS: I personally want to thank Captains Mike, Brian and Jeff that ran the trip for me as they did a great job and I heard nothing but compliments from the charter on how they ran the entire trip.
