Winter Flounder Fishing?
I seem to remember cat food in a chum pot, and bloodworms for bait? Any particular tide work best? Any flounder sharpies want to give me a few hints? I'll be in the Manasquan River, or North Barnegat Bay |

Use clams or blood worms, better yet, if you can get mussels, they are great to use as bait and to chum also. Put 2 chum pots out if you are in a tourney. I'd buy 2 chum logs(clams), put one log and a can or two of corn in one, and some cat food and a chum log in another. Not sure where the bite has been in that area, haven't heard a ton from that area since I fish to the North in the Raritan Bay.

Double anchors Double Chum pots Double D
Put hooks on the chum pots too .... hmmm is that legal in an "IGFA" tournament Have no idea where the fish are but just south of the Mantoloking Bridge has always been productive .... Last year we fished a few times in the river and nada .... but you know how that changes by the day no less year. Have someone drive across the bridge tomorrow to do some scouting / reconnaissance work Some crushed mussels, smack a clam or two and corn just tossed over the side for chum (beside the chum in the pot) Don’t forget to churn up the bottom when you get there, and dont forget to keep bouncing your yeller sankers!! thats all I got bro .....

Be careful with the mussels. If "THE MAN" finds you with them you'll get fined. I think it's illegal to posses them.

another trick is to get a cinder block drop on a line to the bottom and just turn the bottom up every now and then. Just remember lots of chum

It's not illegal to posess them, but you need to have proof of where you got them. i.e. a reciept from a tackle shop.

What a deal this flounder fishing is. Leave at the crack of nine for a one mile run
We set up at the Mantaloking Bridge on the last of the incoming. Not a touch for 2 hours. Moved about 1/2 mile north. When the tide turned and the warmer baywater started pushing through, we had a decent pick for about 2 hours, then it died again. Ended up with 12 on blood and sandworms, all keepers Threw $50 worth of bait and chum at them But on a positive note, looks like we swept the 4 boat tourney and should have 175 smackers rolling in.Thanks everybody for the pointers. I'll be sticking to the pelagics for a while |
