To my surprise, the Hanover Street Ramp was crowded when I arrived at 12:15 pm on Sunday, 9/10/06. There were some large logs and other floating debris in the Patapsco River so, I kept my speed down as I headed toward the Chesapeake Bay.
I tuned in channel 98 FM, and the Ravens were already beating the Bucs 7 to 0 when I started my first drift. The water temperature was 74 degrees and cooling down each day as the fall season is on the horizon.
There were plenty of large striped bass on the up current side of the shoal just waiting for a Hopkins Shorty, 101, silver spoon. Jigging the spoon on bottom produced, but I wanted to try a new technique using a 10” Bass Kandy Delight in Silk Chartreuse fished on a 1 1/2 ounce jighead. The lure and technique produced all keeper size striped bass, some in the 30” class, until I headed home at 5:30 pm.
The productive lures.
The 1 1/2 ounce jighead allow the BKD to stay very close to the bottom while the lure was being retrieved vertically at a fast speed.
Fishing Tip: Use a stop and go retrieve while keeping the slack out of the line will allow you to catch more fish.
Thanks for the report. If you don't mind me asking, where did ya fish? I was out saturday trolling, only picked up a fat 11" white perch and had 2 hits that didn't come tight. Also tried live lining for the first time, bluefish kept biting the wrong end. Put a stinger hook on and then they decided to bite throught the middle. Couldn't catch a break, atleast the weather was nice.
AquaholicFishing: I left the Hanover Street Ramp at 12:15pm and was fishing just after the Raven’s got their first touchdown. So 50 minutes from the ramp I was out in the bay fishing. You will not learn anything if I give you exact locations.
