NJ WHILE WE'RE WAITING FOR THE DRUM BITE, POST BIGGEST/BEST DRUM PICS!!

Caught on the dark side...Slaughter Beach DE in June 2003 by Capt Steve of the Sea Caper. I got to pose for the pic

We determined after L x G that this gal was probably pushing 100 lbs (we now have 2 ~ 125 lb Rapala Lock & Weighs onboard). Planned on C & R but she expired after a 30 minute battle.

As big as this baby was, it was a tap-tap-tap on the rod. Capt Steve grabbed the rod and with a short, stiff pull, the fight was on. 30 minutes later and 2 gaffs, she was aboard.

Hope we'll see some this size this year.

    Poon:

That would be a biggun alright; it might not look it with a 249 lb (wide load at that time ) weighlifter as a backdrop but believe me, she was a biggun. Haven't seen one like that since 2003; Capt Steve boated 6 in the 60-70 lb class last year.

Yes, I do fish.....I'll be posting fish pics instead of Funpics.com pics once we get the season under way.

It used to be like this all the time

Not seeing the really big fish like 15 years ago but still lots of really good sized fish caught every spring and for us it has always been right around the new or full moons. We have had some nights where we have caught 10 or more drum of this size on one 6 hour tide. We never kept more than 6 or 7 but even that was too much as these are breeders but within the legal limits. Biggest to date was a 96 lb fish weighed at Jim's years ago but that was before the internet and digital cameras. For those that have never had the oppurtunity to fish for drum in the spring on the Delaware Bay it really is a great way to start off the inshore season. Throw in a couple of 30 lb plus stripers and not a bad evening of fishing without burning hardly any fuel.
P.S. They do pull twice as hard as any stiper you will ever catch and personally have caught a dozen stripers 45-48 lbs. lbs thru the years but the stripers are wimpy compared to a 50-60 lb drum.
