    Exclamation What! No Minnows

with the recent Minnow shortage it seems some people are kind of reluctant to fish for fluke these days.I'll tell you right now no matter where you fish, you can catch plenty of fluke without minnows.strip baits of any kind will work on those flat ones, combo it up with a spearing or mullet. It looks like candy to a fat flounder..The Gulp products from Berkley are like crack to those flatfish, the 3"-4" mullet in chart, white, pink are good fluke alternatives. Also the 3"&4" shrimp in new penny, natural, molting&,pearl are also good.don't forget live spot, they're not cheap but boy do they get the job done
so when your your local bait shop is out of minnows, ask them "so what are those flatties hitting on the best".Im sure they will be more than happy to help you out.

p.s. if you have any other tips or tricks please dont hesitate to add them.

if you catch any flounder also try the flounder belly as a strip.
it has always worked well for me.

Now I'm confused. In South Jersey its minnows and flounder. In North Jersey its killies and fluke. When you mix terms like that I don't know which end is up

Your right with what you said...I've caught a bunch on cutbait. Lets not even discuss how many die to live peanut bunker.
I have never heard of a minnow shortage in June though. Is this why the Snapper population is in jeopardy?

I know but with 20 out of 23 days of rain in the month of june, the fresh water levels are to high causing the minnows to retreat from the shallow cricks to find more brackish waters. Its to absurd for me to make this sh!t up. You won't believe the amount of people that won't fish with out minnows its crazy

    32" Fluke

Minnow shortage does NOT mean Fluke trouble!

I just weighed in a 6 pound 12 ounce flattie that was caught on cut bait. This fish was the weight of a healthy newborn and was caught without the use of minnows. There is no need to use minnows as a crutch any longer. A lot of these effective baits are longer lasting and less expensive than minnows. Get out there and experiment!
