Wednesday- VB CB line
Fished with Capt Pete on his sweet little seacraft ("Disturbed")wednesday. Caught bait on the beach just off rudee and off we went. Started just south of the LIP and worked south towards False cape with nothing to show for our efforts. Finally said to hell with this and ran on out to the cb line to see if we could coax one of those big cobes that everyone has been catching or maybe a king. Found a really nice color change from green to blue/green blend ~6/8 miles off the beach and we finnally had some baits going off- Final tally was (1) 48" cobia, (1) 4' houndfish, (5) sharks including one blacktip and (1) 25 lb king. We had another close encounter with a large tanker as we were fighting the king and he bore right down on us as we were at least a half mile inside of the channel. Never slowed down , passed very close and hit us with probably a 10 to 12 ft wake. Pete did a great job handling the boat while I tried to maintain control over the fish. Had another ship shortly thereafter coming up way inside the channel before it too turned east. I wonder why they mark the channel, or why its even there if the shipping traffic is not going to use it?? Oh well- appreciate the invite Pete and thanx for my first Va. King paper. Did get a couple of pix . craig
48" cobe- almost but no cigar-
