FightingIrish45 and myself decided to take advantage of very favorable conditions this weekend and got out both Saturday and Sunday to chase the birds around.
Saturday was absolutley gorgeous with a flat as could be ocean and when the rain stopped and it cleared up and the afternoon was even better. We started out front of the Spinaker hotels off Sea Isle and jigged a little bit with only 2 missed bites to show for our efforts. With reports of a lot of shorts being caught on the troll at the lump we decided to move out there and see if we could pick through them and find a keeper. No such luck there. Our next move took us 8 miles south where there was bird play and keeper fish in the morning. We arrived and were a day late and dollar short as the birds were gone except a few gannets diving here and there. Got back up on the troll and boated a nice 35" fish and pulled the hook on 2 other fish that would have made there way into the box.
Here are a couple pics of Saturdays trip.
Sunday we had a much better bite as we made our way south to where we caught on Saturday. There was a huge fleet and hundreds of birds. The fish finder was lit up like a Christmas tree and we honestly lost track of how many fish we caught. No need to post silly numbers here. The trouble was they were all 23"-27" fish and we only mananged 1 keeper at 28". I talked to Real Deal and he had a couple keepers and so did a few other guys. You really had to pick for through them. We had double header after double header and my wrist is actually sore today from fighting all these fish.
Here are a couple pictures from Sunday's trip.
Plenty of bent rods and smiles on Sunday!!!
Can you say ON THE MEAT?
