Vacation report 7/2 to 7/6
Friday was a beach/boardwalk day.
Saturday: Crew was my dad and I. We left the camp ground at 3:00am and towed the boat down to Ocean City. Put the boat in at the public ramp by AKE marine and headed out of OC Inlet around 4:30-4:45. Made our way to the hambone and had our lines in and started trolling by 6:00. Trolled for 15 minutes and had our first BFT in the boat. It was 33 inches and about 20 lbs. the fish hit a bally on islander. We tossed it back to look for a bigger one. About 10 minutes later we had a hit on the rainbow spreader bar. Fought the fish for a couple minutes. Got it boat side and stuck a gaff in it. We figured it was around 60-65lbs. (When we got back we weighed it at Rick’s and it was 57.5 lbs). Pulled the lines in and headed for the inlet. We were back in and heading back to Longneck at 10:00am. Water Temp was 72.1°.
Sunday was a pool/fireworks day: We did the pool and then we went out on the Lil’ Angler to watch the fireworks in Rehoboth. On our way to where we were going to anchor I looked up and saw the NOT RIGHT! Snapped a picture and called Shorty on the phone.
Monday: Crew was my dad, My brothers father-in-law and brother-in-law and myself. Left at 3:00am and we headed to Ocean City again. Boat was in the water and headed out through the inlet at 4:45am. Got to the hambone and started putting lines in. We didn’t even have all the lines in and we had a hit and had the first BFT in the boat. It was 33 inches and about 20 pounds so we tossed it back figuring we would catch another one. Fish hit the rainbow spreader bar. Put the bar back out and 5 minutes later we had another hit on the same bar. The drag did not get set properly and the fish bird nested the reel. We took a couple minutes to get that straightened out and the fish was gone. We the trolled around the bone for until 10:45 without a hit. At 10:45 one of the lines went off and after a quick fight we had a nice King Mackerel. The fish hit a trolled bally with an Islander. We trolled for another half an hour and the had another hit. At 11:15 we had our BFT in the boat. Fish hit a trolled bally with a islander. Weighed in at Lewes Harbor Marina and it weighed 44 pounds. The King Mack ended up being a citation fish that weighed 16 pounds. Water Temp was 71.3°. Pictures are on my dad’s camera. I will post them up when I get them
Tuesday: Slept in, got up, cleaned up, and headed home. The hottest temp I saw in the truck on the way home was 106° as we were going by the Dover Air Force Base.
