Hey Mary, hope this isnt the tourny you are referring too, it was in yesterdays Va. Pilot (newspaper).
"Tourney canceled
The sixth annual Get Hooked on Hampton Rockfish Tournament and Oyster Bash, scheduled for Nov. 17, has been canceled.
"Due to new opportunities and an evolving format, we felt it necessary to cancel the tournament and block party for 2007," tournament director Jim Baugh said in a news release. "
There are some larger fish being caught mostly at night though around the pilings at the CBBT. - most of us locals that i know dont start fishing rockfish until thanksgiving though. too much other stuff still too catch. hope this helps-![]()
Mary - there's some resident big boys (36" - 42") here now. Hopefully, by the end of the month there'll be more around. Right now, the best bet is casting swimming plugs/top water baits at the islands of the Bridge Tunnel. Line-lining spot/croaker/eels over the tubes will produce bigger fish, but not as much catchin'.
Another cold snap (or two), and it'll be a more consistant catch of fish in the 30 lb range.
Agree...water temps are coming down now so I assume some bigger fish will be around for the taking. Been a strange Fall. Hopefully the warm weather will mean the fish will hang around longer into Jan/Feb like last year.
I'm hoping we get a good flattie run...should be any time now if it's going to happen.
Glenn

Its been very on and off up here and hopefully with this cold front pushing in things will be up to par at the end of the week.
I guess I like trolling alot more than chunking![]()
